Sights & Smells of Summer

Sights & Smells of Summer

Finding Joy in the Heat

There’s nothing quite like waking up in the morning in early summer. The sun has already been up and had its breakfast, the birds are already chirping, and the heat has already been building. Thank God for air conditioning! We recently got our AC fixed and it is now deliciously cool indoors. Maybe even a touch cold. A perfect setup for the breakfast in question pictured here.

This is not really a recipe this time, more of just a reflection on summer, and some mouth-watering pictures. Zizi made chocolate chip waffles, slathered them with peanut butter, and topped them with fried eggs. Not exactly what I would have envisioned as a combination, but I am constantly reminded that peanut butter can be used equally well with either sweet or traditionally “salty” dishes. Zizi thought it was delicious, and it fits her personality perfectly.

The oranges need no explanation. They are tender and juicy, just tart enough to wake you up in the morning, perfect all around. And then of course there’s coffee, that nectar of the gods. Even if it is served in a teacup, still coffee!

Outdoors, the plants are growing and we’re getting tomatoes for the first time in a while. The only problem is the caterpillars, which are amazing to look at but horribly destructive.

It’s going to be a good summer. We have lots of projects and things planned. Stay tuned for more!
