Dragon Juice
Because Pumpkin Spice Season Also Means Colds
Fall means many things, and with kids back-to-school, in come the germs. It’s the time to drag out the sweaters, fuzzy socks, and vitamin C. And Granny gave us a big bag of vitamin C drink mix!
Last month the food pantry had large bags of frozen blueberries, and half of the people in this house love blueberries. The girls like to eat them frozen, kinda like cold, organic fruit gushers. I prefer to put them in my water.
I was trying to think of how to get the kids to drink the vitamin C, and decided to make a blueberry lemonade with it. Unfortunately we didn’t have any lemon juice, so I mixed the powder with lime juice. Then I wrapped blueberries in coffee filters and let them soak in the juice. Citric acid turns the blueberry juice bright pink!
Since only half of the kids like blueberries I did not tell them what this drink was made from. I just told them it was Dragon Juice, and it would give them power against sickness. Maximus was not thrilled about being tricked into drinking blueberry juice, but he admitted that it wasn’t terrible.
Maybe when I’m finally well enough to not have to take meds every day I’ll throw in a splash of vodka or rum and see how that tastes.
